Problems of the Indian Education System
The Indian education system has a long history which shows how old the education system is. However, this is not identified as the world’s best education system. The reason for that is the way the Indian education system is implemented to educate the students.
Access to quality and advanced education
Every society is in need to get or to have quality and advanced education in order to have growth and development. Quality and advanced education enable society to contribute significantly to the development of individuals as well as the economy.
The students from rural and semi-urban areas do have not access to quality and advanced education. This quality education can easily be accessible to the Metropolitan students and the students of IIT, IIM, and the like reputed institutes.
The majority of the country’s students live in places where it is quite difficult to access the quality and advanced education which can easily be accessible in the cities
Insufficient Contribution of the Indian education system to GDP growth
The Indian education system is not providing quality and advanced education as it has to be considering the need and emerging challenges they need to face in various areas of society.
For example
- In the healthcare and manufacturing industry quality education plays a vital role in making or building potential workforce and human resources.
- Indian manufacturing industries are dependent upon importing spare parts and input materials from China which can be avoided by manufacturing these products in our country. It requires a quality and advanced education system.
- Insufficient infrastructure
The majority of the educational institutes in India have been showing that their infrastructure is better but on paper. In reality, the picture is very different rather it is worst than what it shown on paper. Regulatory authority is not evaluating with honesty. Ultimately students and society is facing challenges while taking education in various discipline.
Standard of education is not progressive:
This narrow perspective is the limitations of our education system which can not increase the potential of students to contribute nation’s growth.
However, the standard of education designed by experts, it has not been implemented due to the significant differences in the syllabus. Universities are setting the syllabus and the methods for their academic courses are not according to the requirement. It has also been observed that the universities and institutes are not implementing educational management practices to make the students significant contributions for the development of the nation. Their purpose is to make students capable to get higher-package jobs.
Failure in reducing Dropout rates significantly:
The government has been implementing many methods to reduce dropouts for many years but has yet to achieve the expected dropout rate. The reason behind that is the government has not addressed the actual issues which need to be solved. There are many reasons for dropouts. It is essential to address those issues which are observed in the majority of dropouts. At the operational level, the people or employees are not taking efforts significantly to reduce dropouts.
Failure in Building the Skillset
The Indian education system is failed to provide quality education in building the skill set it has. If we talk about institutes other than IIT, IIM, and the like reputed institutes, it has hardly found quality education that really improves skillsets.
For example
Most of the colleges which run the courses like B. Sc. M. Sc. MBA are producing graduates but not with concerned skillsets that they required in their areas.
Strengths of the Indian Education System
Positive Developments
Developments in the Indian education system are indicated by our difference in Literacy rate from the pre-independence period to till today. The right of education to Free and compulsory education act enables people to provide education to their children without any barriers.
Digital Initiatives:
Indian Government is providing digital platforms through which education is promoted. For example, Swayam is the platform Where all the reported institutes of the country conduct different courses from the various areas of our disciplines. These courses are provided online in order to have access to any student from anywhere to complete the course free of cost.
Another example that every people experience in a critical or worst situation is Covid19 pandemic. All the universities have been providing education online as well as conducting the examination online. The period of education had not been lost due to the digital initiatives of many universities in the country.
Higher Education Reforms:
With the development and growth in economic activities, education is also improved over the period of time in India. If we compare the disciplines in which students were taking education 50 years ago and now we come to know that drastic reforms have been made. Every profession provides specialized courses along with its availability to all students.
For example
Once upon a time courses like MBA, and engineering were not available to all the cities. But now professional education is easily available in all the districts.
Skill Development Programs:
The Indian government is conducting many skill development programs for various areas such as agriculture, education, etc. These skill development programs motivate and educate professionals in these areas to increase their productivity. Following are some of the Institutes/programs implemented by the Indian Government.
ATMA(Agriculture Technology Management Agency): promotes various advanced methods to increase farmers’ productivity in farming such as ATMA promotes organic farming by providing training to farmers.
MSME(Ministry of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises) motivates and trains new entrepreneurs through a variety of training programs.
The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) promotes exports and research activities by providing financial assistance through subsidy schemes. It involves in fixation of standards and specifications of specific products for the purpose of export
Online Education Platforms:
SWAYAM is the best example of an online education platform from where the government’s institutes and various reported institutes conduct the courses for many disciplines for all free of cost. These courses are provided online for all these students who do not have access to quality education in their areas. IIT, IIM IGNOU, and many reputed institutes provide courses in many disciplines free of cost.
